Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) is the class where kids learn to be active for a lifetime. In PE, students learn how to move their bodies fluently and develop the knowledge, fitness levels, physical skills and personal and social skills necessary for a lifetime of health and physical activity.
Students in elementary schools should receive a minimum of 60 minutes of instructional physical education per week and, ideally, 150 minutes per week. Middle school and high school students should have at least one-half academic year of instructional physical education for 225 minutes per week. Ideally, instructional physical education should be offered all years of secondary education.
The Healthy Schools Program has the tools, resources, and training you need to assess and improve your physical education program. Get started.
Quality PE Programs
All students should learn how to move their bodies and be fit! Learn strategies, activities and approaches that are required to develop a quality PE program.
Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity
Teaching strategies, equipment and transition management all contribute to keeping your students’ activity levels high during the entire PE period.
Health-Related Fitness Assessment
Not only should kids be active for 60 minutes a day, but they should learn the skills and knowledge to know if they are fit.
